Slinkachu
Slinkachu is a London street photographer who produces real life situations using mini train set figurines which he modifies to suit the shot he's planning on taking. This helps tell extraordinary stories to his audience. He also paints snail shells with nontoxic paint which is another project he has done which is called the Inner City Snail Project. Throughout his images he uses one bright colour and all the other colours are usually dark grey (using the floor or the natural surroundings) this shows he’s trying to set a mood. It gives us the impression that there are dark stories behind each image however this is unknown and that is my own interpretation.
My Favourite Image from Slinkachu
This is my favourite image because it looks to be telling/ mimicking real life occurrences. It shows division through the classes, which is the businessmen of a higher class versing the normal middle working class people. It also represents the demand for money. He used both horizontal cross sections of compositional rules to impact the image. |
This represents the divide between society by showing we're all fighting for the same thing.
Pierre Javelle
Pierre Javelle is also a similar type of photographer however his project is called there miniman project where he uses mostly foods in his images, he does this project with a friend. In his work he uses a shallow depth of field to emphasise the focus on the figuring, he also uses a fast shutter speed which makes the image crisp clear and helps preserve the detail.
My First Shoot
In my first shoot I am hoping to get a feel for taking images of miniature things as it is one thing I have never done before
In this shoot I tried two things, one was a real life situation where I used an IPad to create a scene with a man jumping of a diving board, the other one was trying to get the right depth of field and focus point onto the stapler and the figure.
My Best Photograph
My favourite image shows a person trapped under a stapler, this is the best one in my opinion because I got the stapler and the person in focus, by doing this I learnt how to take pictures correctly of a small figurine by using the macro setting.
As this is my first attempt, I will be recreating a complete new shoot by adding more creativity into them, further more I will carry on using the macro setting to take my images.

My Worst Photograph
This is my worst photograph because I did not get the lighting I needed, the room was dark and dull. This effected the white balance of the photograph.
My second shoot
In my second shoot I am hoping to recreate how some of my family evening pan out by using a circular table and chairs like the ones in my house, as they will be made out of card the colours will be different however this is to create a more vibrant cheerful effect
My best Photograph
This is my best photograph because I wanted to show an Slinkachu figure from another figurines perspective, which is sat opposite taking the photograph. I also made my own sofa’s to show more creativity throughout my images. To improve my next image I’m going to use everyday items to make it more appealing to the audience.
my worst
This is my worst image as it is underexposed and I did not achieve what I set out to.
My third shoot
My idea for this shoot is to try use as many different items what I have in my bag to try create a shoot what shows how miniature the figurines are compared to the items.
My best Photograph
This is my favourite image because I used a every day object (bag of crisps) which i stacked up so they made steps (I thought about slinkachu and how he uses the floor to impact on his images , this also added texture). These steps look like there leading to the big pack of crisps what are not in focus, however on this image I have realized it is slightly blurred and this was down to my misjudgment of shutter speed, I could make it less blurry by setting it on 1/4000.I think this is my best image because I planned a theme (crisps) I had not included a theme before this.
My worst image.
This is my worst image because my focus point is in the wrong place, unfortunatelly I did not get the desired affect I wanted. To improve this I could change the focus point as well .I will be changing the camera positioning so the audience cannot see the end of the paper or the table.
My fourth Shoot
like my last idea I have chosen to use an item I use every day and something very common amongst children, chewing gum, I imagine seeing a miniature figurine with a chewing gum advert, so that exactly what I will be trying to recreate
My Best Photograph
This is my best photograph as it is in focus & the image is clear. The story I was trying to show was a Slinkachu figure having a break reading the paper on a piece of chewing gum.
My Worst Photograph
This was my worst shot because it was out of focus and is very blurred, it is like this because the shutter speed was slow. To improve this I need to set a faster shutter speed at 1/4000.
Overall I think this shoot was more of a success than any other shoot because I took more of Slinkachu’s ideas and implemented them into my own images for example I used the floor to make the chewing gum and figurine stand out, I used one colour just like Slinkachu did to have the impact on the viewer. By using a minty colour I set a calm mood throughout the image.
My fifth and final Shoot
The things I think went well, I think in this slinkachu project has taught me how much focus points can impact an image
It taught me about exposure, depth of field and how to use the marcro setting-we had to use these when we had to focus of the figure, during this unit I have also broadened my range of vocabulary and am able to identify how to change an image to make it better. it also has taught me how to use time better for example I took 6 months from this unit to plan my last shoot, in this shoot I had analysed 20 different slinkachu images and written which each one had in common.

I’m going to use this famous old image of workers at the empire state building and remake it with my own twist, I’m going to remake the image using Lego, and I will also use a shallow depth of field and a small focus point.
I'm going to use the lego men to sit down.
As another spin I’m changing the perspective from the empire state being built and it already built, also I’m changing where the image is took from ,I’m now taking it looking at the state building.
|
I'm going to use the long Lego brick to act as the support beam they are sat on. This defeats and changes Slinkachu’s idea of adding floor to impact the imagine because in mine there is no floor at all
|
why did i plan another shoot?
I decided my last shoot should be my own and I will completely recreate images turning Slinkachu’s idea of a good image upside down- creating my own out of it:
-using a floor to impact an image.
-using one block colour to impact an image.
-the focus point to be just of the one Slinkachu.
-having the figurine in focus.
Instead my images will include of:
-no floor but using a beautiful skyline to add depth not texture to my image.
-to keep it simple (black and white).
-wide field range.

Notes to my self
sort tittles and subtitles out
Shoot of my figurines
As I was in a room where the lighting wasn’t great, I used a fluorescent light and a softener to get the best shots I could. I also took the photograph from as many angles as I could to get the best one.to achieve this image I had to use the macro setting.
Best
To take this image I had to use the macro setting on my camera because it would not focus on auto and I could not get it to look right on manual, as I will be photo manipulating this I put it on a white piece of paper so there is no confusion between what I want and the background for the lighting I also used a fluorescent light bulb to counter the horrible colour from my first pictures.
Worst
This is not my best image as the lighting was not good i did end up changing it by adding a fluorescent light bulb and light softener.
Editing.
1.
2.
In this I cut out the Lego figures from the background so I can lay this ontop of the selected background.
On this piece of editing I added the rope and a bolt onto the figures i then went on to turn everything into black and white, I then compressed the image so it became one and not layers. Then added my selected image into the background into my image changing it to black and white to match my Slinkachu figurines.
finished piece
I enjoyed doing this shoot as it brought some memories back from my childhood, this is a good thing as the image has a big audience it will appeal to.
What Went Well / Evaluation.
In my Slinkachu most of my shoots went to plan, my favourite shoots is my last shoot and my second as I had to be really creative and that’s something I always have aspire for In my images. I learnt how to use the macro setting as I needed to learn this so I could get the camera to focus on such small items. I overall think that this unit was only hard in the aspect of coming up with ideas.it seemed to take me long to come up with my ideas apart from this I did enjoy the challenges it gave me and will help me to be able to drive through my other units .
